The Italia Marittima S.p.A. Environmental Policy is to meet the requirements of applicable International, United States Federal, State and domestic laws and regulations in all operational activities.
All employees whether on Marine & Engineering Department or onboard shall observe this policy at all times that will enable the Company to comply with this policy and support them to be fully skilled to follow their duties in a responsible manner in order to prevent pollutions and minimize risks to the environment.
To achieve above policy the Company since 1999 established a Safety Management System to comply with the International Safety Management Code. The Company and vessels, owned and/or on bare-boat chartered basis, got valid ISM certifications by Italian Administration; the "Document of Compliance" for the Company and the "Safety Management Certificate" for the vessels.
Procedures are in force on "Safety Management System" and followed in a responsible manner by all involved employees to avoid and/or minimise any pollution by ship as:

- Shore Staff Training
- Preparation before Crew Joining on board
- Familiarization on new Shipboard personnel
- Garbage management plan
- Transfer of oil/fuel products
- Cargo handling, including pollutant substances
- Prevention of Marine pollution
- Prevention of Oil pollution
- Instruction for Emergency Treatment against Incidental Spillage

The Company put a Training Annual Plan into practice for Marine & Engineer Department where the safety and the environmental protection are managed.
Teachers are internal and external. Masters and Chief Engineers are trained in-office before their signing-on; fulfilment of safety and environmental protection are verified on board during internal and official verifications/audits and environmental drills/exercises are carried out on board vessels at least on monthly basis.
The Company's vessels comply with all international and national laws in force as SOLAS, MARPOL, and are provided at least with the following certificates to prevent the marine environment :

- International Oil Pollution Prevention Certificate
- International Sewage Pollution Prevention Certificate
- Document of Compliance for the Carriage of Dangerous Goods
- SOPE Plan (Shipboard Oil Pollution Emergency Plan)

Company guidelines in order to minimize marine environmental damages is to reduce any discharge at sea.
To manage in the best way this matter all vessels are recommended to deliver oil residual, garbage and any other pollutant material ashore, to a port facility.

More the Company is implementing on its own vessels:

- Anti-fouling paints
- Compactors for plastic
- Use of biodegradable materials
- Fuel characteristic/efficiency in order to turn down emissions on air


Environmental Requirements

All applicable International, flag state, U.S. and port state environmental law, statutes, regulations, enforceable agreements of this Environmental Policy including, but not limited to:

- The International Safety Management Code (ISM Code);
- The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, 1973 as amended;
- U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR);
- The Oil Pollution Act (OPA);
- The Washington Administrative Act (WAC) which include WAC 317-40 Bunkering Operations.
